Fernando López Gatius graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of Zaragoza (1978), doctor in veterinary medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1987) and elected foreign member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium (2013). Professor / University professor from 1985 to 2015.
Develops a reproductive control in dairy cattle based on weekly visits that has allowed him to carry out more than a million gynecological examinations from 1979 to 2018. The data record of this control has served for most of its scientific production, related to the reproductive clinical physiology of the high production cow.
He has participated in the elaboration of 212 scientific articles that have received more than 4400 citations, with an index h of 37 (“Web of Science”, January 2019).
Most of its funding has been derived from the private sector, especially from dairy cattle farms and pharmaceutical companies.
He is currently an independent researcher responsible for “Transfer in Bovine Reproduction SLu”, a society with scientific-technical objectives in dairy cattle farms.
Special topics of interest are anestrus, synchronization and induction of ovulation, the quality of the pre-ovulatory follicle and the post-ovulatory corpus luteum, the problem of twin gestations and the maintenance of pregnancy.
