After receiving a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Zaragoza in 1994 he joined the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development – Neiker (formerly SIMA) in October 1994, enjoying a pre-doctoral fellowship granted by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government. From that moment he began his research career focused on the field of mycobacteriosis, mainly Tuberculosis and Paratuberculosis.
The diagnosis and control of these mycobacterioses in both livestock and wildlife are their main lines of interest.
He has participated in 30 Research Projects funded both by the EU and by Calls for the National Plan and Local Administrations of the Basque Country, of which 25 were related to mycobacteriosis. These projects have been developed mainly in commercial farms of the Basque Country.
He has participated in more than 90 scientific publications, as well as in 25 informative publications.
He was part of the panel of professors who taught the course on theoretical, practical and legal basis aspects in the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis. Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
It should be noted that in 1996 he joined the International Association of Paratuberculosis and since November 2007 is a member of its Executive Committee on behalf of the State.
