My name is Rocío Mateo Gallego and I am a Diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (2007), with a Master’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Feeding (2009), a Master’s, and Diploma in Public Health (2011) at the University of Zaragoza. In 2015, I finished my Doctorate in Medicine from the same University, obtaining the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.
In 2008 I started my professional activity in the field of research, joining the group of Primary Dislipemias, led by Professor Fernando Civeira, within the framework of the Miguel Servet University Hospital and the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences first (2008-2015), and in the Health Research Institute of Aragón after (2016). My professional activity has been specifically carried out in the Clinical and Research Unit in Lipids and Arteriosclerosis, where I have developed both clinical activity and research, mainly in patients with dyslipidemia. In these years, I specialized my training in the field of clinical nutrition, public health and epidemiology. I have participated as coordinator and researcher in more than 15 clinical trials.
In 2016, and for 4 months, I made a stay in the Cardiovascular Epidemiology group, led by Professor Dariush Mozaffarian, at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University (Boston, United States). There I developed a project focused on the study of the effect of modulation of diet on the impact of risk factors on cardiovascular disease. I had the opportunity to learn different techniques in the field of epidemiology, mainly in the realization of meta-analysis.
My professional activity has also been very closely linked with the University. For 3 years I was a collaborating professor at the University of Zaragoza, where I taught different classes in the Degree and Doctorate courses at the Faculty of Medicine. Later, during the 2017/2018 academic year, I joined the Isabel I University as a professor in the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Since September 2018, I have joined as assistant professor doctor in the Degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics of the University of Zaragoza, which I combine with research activities in the Primary Dislipemias Group, within the framework of the Aragón Health Research Institute.
I have participated in more than 10 national and international competitive research projects and in scientific networks in the field of cardiovascular disease, lipids and nutrition. I have led four of these projects, one of them with European public funding and managed by the National Institute of Agrifood Research (INIA), within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) plan.
My scientific production includes more than 60 publications in scientific journals, the participation in the elaboration of several books, the presentation of more than 50 scientific communications in national and international congresses (10 of them as first author). I have done the scientific review of about 15 manuscripts for journals such as Clinical Nutrition, British Journal of Nutrition, Nutrition Research and Plos One. For five years, I have been part of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Endocrinology & Metabolism. I have been a lecturer in different conferences or congresses, such as the III Aragonese Nutrition Conference of the Miguel Servet University Hospital or the VII National Congress of Community Pharmacists.
